Few bands have flown the flag for big, riff-heavy Australian rock quite like Wolfmother. Led by singer and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, the Sydney outfit burst out of the mid-2000s with a sound that channelled the swagger of ’70s heavy rock: towering riffs, soaring vocals and a full-tilt live show. Songs like “Woman” and “Joker and the Thief” became festival-sized singalongs, and “Woman” earned the band a Grammy.

Across a career of more than two decades, Wolfmother have built a devoted global following and delivered show-stealing sets at some of the world’s biggest festivals, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Isle of Wight, Splendour in the Grass, Pinkpop, Rock en Seine and Fuji Rock. They’ve shared stages with rock royalty such as AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Foo Fighters, and were personally invited to perform as special guests at Led Zeppelin’s induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

Fresh from a major European and UK tour, Wolfmother return home to play the inaugural Aloha Festival on Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Saturday 6 March 2027. Expect the hits, expect volume, and expect a beachside crowd singing every word right back at them.

More than 15 years into their career, everything Ball Park Music do feels like a victory lap. The Brisbane indie favourites have become one of Australia’s most loved bands: six of their eight albums have debuted in the ARIA Top 5, one of them at No. 1, four songs have gone platinum, and they’ve racked up more than a dozen Hottest 100 placements along the way.

Led by Sam Cromack, the band have a gift for songs that feel like old friends the first time you hear them. Think “It’s Nice to Be Alive”, “Sunscreen” and “Exactly How You Are”. Plenty of bands in that position would happily coast on nostalgia, but Ball Park Music keep writing, experimenting and winning new fans. They are not most bands.

Few bands have shaped Australian music, and the national conversation, quite like Yothu Yindi. Formed in North East Arnhem Land in 1986, the group blended Yolŋu song and dance with rock and pop, and gave the country some of its most enduring anthems, among them “Treaty”, “Djäpana (Sunset Dreaming)”, “Tribal Voice”, “Timeless Land” and “World Turning”.

Stalwarts of Australia’s Indigenous music scene, Yothu Yindi have toured the US, Europe and the Pacific, and count Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly, Neil Young and Santana among their admirers.

Today’s line-up brings together original members and fresh talent from the next generation: blackfellas and whitefellas from North East Arnhem Land who continue to honour the music and movement the band’s founders sparked four decades ago. True to the band’s name, Yolŋu Matha for “child and mother”, it’s a celebration of kinship handed from one generation to the next.

Dune Rats have always done things their own way. The Brisbane trio carry on a proud local tradition of do-it-yourself punk rock, the same rebellious, high-energy streak that runs back through The Saints and The Purple Hearts, and they’ve turned it into one of the most fun live shows in the country.

Danny Beus (vocals, guitar), BC Michaels (drums) and Brett Jansch (bass) have built their name on an infectious, carefree attitude and a knack for raucous, feel-good punk anthems that manage to sound both reckless and refined. Their 2017 album The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit went straight to No. 1 on the ARIA chart, and crowds around Australia have been shouting their choruses back at them ever since.

Ask how they’ve kept it going, and the band put it plainly: “We’ve been around for over a decade now, and the secret’s pretty simple – we love what we do, and we love each other.”

That warmth spills right off the stage. At Aloha Festival 2027, Dune Rats will go harder, play louder and have more fun than anyone. Their rocket-fuel songs are the magic that gets you on your feet and reminds you what a music festival is all about. Wear shoes you can jump in.

The Terrys are a kaleidoscopic burst of energy, creativity and unapologetic authenticity from the coastal town of Gerringong on the NSW South Coast. Born out of a shared trailer house during lockdown, the five-piece of Jacob Finch (vocals), Caleb Tasker (lead guitar), Ben Salvatori (rhythm guitar), Cameron Cooper (drums) and Trent Cooper (bass) have carved their own path with a magnetic blend of catchy melodies, candid lyrics and boundless camaraderie.

That friendship is the heart of what makes The Terrys so much fun. Their songs are sunny, scrappy and full of heart, written by mates for mates, and their shows feel less like a performance and more like a party everyone’s been invited to. It’s music that celebrates the beauty of imperfection and the simple joy of being a little chaotic and surrounded by good people.

Few Australian acts have soundtracked a summer quite like The Beautiful Girls – and even fewer were DEE WHY BORN AND BRED like singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mat McHugh. The band grew in 2001 out of a beachside upbringing steeped in surf and skate culture, where hip-hop, reggae and punk rock blared from party sound systems and car stereos. McHugh folded all of it into one sound: acoustic songs riding deep dub basslines and loose, propulsive grooves, delivered in a mellow voice with unguarded honesty.

The debut album Learn Yourself (2003) followed two self-released EPs, and by 2005 McHugh was touring Japan, Canada and the US. That year’s We’re Already Gone reached No. 19 on the ARIA Albums Chart and earned ARIA and J Award nominations. Ziggurats (2007) also made the Top 25 and produced the APRA-nominated “I Thought About You”. Spooks (2010) and Dancehall Days (2014) kept the run going, alongside two McHugh solo albums.

Remarkably, he did it all independently, completing a dozen world tours in eight years without a major label or corporate backing. Live, the music is warm, rhythmic and made for an open-air crowd at sunset, which is exactly what it will get at the Aloha Festival.

With a sound drenched in sun-soaked melodies and shimmering guitars, Brisbane’s indie-rock sweethearts Mid Drift have quickly become one of Australia’s most compelling live bands. The female-fronted five-piece skyrocketed through 2026, selling out two national headline tours and packing rooms across the country.

Known for their infectious energy and magnetic stage presence, Mid Drift have made the leap from local indie darlings to festival favourites, sharing stages with Aussie crowd-pleasers Ocean Alley, Old Mervs and The Vanns, and bringing their vibrant sound to line-ups including Laneway and NYE on the Hill.

Their music is warm, breezy and built for summer: the kind of guitar pop that feels like a coastal road trip with the windows down. Expect bright hooks, plenty of dancing and a band clearly having the time of their lives on stage. Catch them now and you can say you were there on the way up.
